Farewell: first 8 pages

Hello!
Now my semester is over, I finished 8 pages of the story I'm working on and polished them up all shiny. Here they are, I'll hopefully have it available in a cheap zine format before I complete the rest as a finished book!
This probably won't be the cover but it's temporary, I recycled another piece for now.

Photos with Brutally Beautiful

Hello! Here are some photos from a shoot I did with Brutally Beautiful photography.
It was a wonderful collaborative creative project with lots of talented ladies.  I styled the models too which is how I justify my excessive wardrobe sometimes.
The photos were published in Dark Beauty Magazine's August/September edition which you can buy here! I bought two. This issue also has a 6-page feature on my artwork!
Check out Brutally Beautiful's website where you can see the rest of the photos from this set!

3 more pages

Continuing on my last post, here are three more images that will be part of the project/book/thing. My scanner is a tiny bit smaller than the drawings and they're not all cleaned up or anything, but I'm just trying to churn them out as quickly as possible D:
It's been raining a lot so I've been hunched over my desk with tea and drawing so I won't have to go anywhere.
Hope you like them!

Farewell Project

This year I'm in my fourth year at Emily Carr, which means I can work on a grad project. Right now I'm finally starting to produce finished images for my project, which will be some kind of hardbound book containing a narrative of images. I'm not too caught up in what exactly the finished product will be but I've been working on a story and doing lots of sketchies and hopefully the end result will be neat.
I hope you like these first 2 pages, I won't describe the story too much right now but this will probably be at the beginning.
I have lots of drawing to do! I hope it can be 10-20 pages long. :s

Photos by Nina Pak

Keep reading for more photos~
Here are some photos from a shoot I did recently with photographer Nina Pak and stylist/designer/superhero Dani Barnes! Nina did an amazing job on the photos and our hair, and she fed us delicious vegan food the entire time.
Dani and I did each others makeup and I am wearing my own chainmail/studded bustier and jewelry that I made along with some of Dani's designs. I was given the chainmail part attached to a bustier that I took apart and reconstructed with a belt and a bra. AND THEN I COVERED IT IN LEATHER AND SPIKES

Typologies

I drew some lips for school. They are all musicians, performers, and artists of some kind that I thought had really extraordinary lips/lipstick styles.

My job is fun

Alison Woodward and I  just finished re-making one of the awesomest things I've worked on this summer. I don't have a lot of time to make stuff for myself in the summer because I have an awesome real-life job where I make fun things for Public Dreams Society. We made a giant Jenga and Twister game under the direction of crafty mastermind Alison Therriault to be rented out and sent to various festivals and events. They were awesome but the materials we used didn't hold up to the abuse so we had to repair and eventually re-do them completely. I had to throw the Twister away but I'm going to be making a new one soon I guess!
We just finished the Jenga today though and it turned out awesome, we tried it out and took some photos and I think I need to get my stilts on to play it next time.

Backpack

Hello there!
Recently I made myself a little backpack so I could go on small adventures and carry my stuff around while I am dancing in the forest.
I couldn't find one I liked that I could afford or obtain, and I figured I could sew a fancy rectangle. It turned out better than expected!
 Here are some pictures.

It's made of canvas and recycled leather.

We survived!

This is the back of The FALL the next afternoon
I'm sure you all heard about the terrible party some hooligans had all over our downtown in Vancouver last week after the Canucks lost the hockey game.. Watching the live news footage online I was horrified to see that most of the destruction and madness was happening right around, in front of, and above The FALL, the shop that I work at. Surrounded by 4 burning cars, a parkade on fire, and The Bay being smashed up and looted across the street it didn't look too promising for the shop, but some of artists and staff at The FALL stayed behind to guard the shop. You don't wanna mess with those guys. The shop is fine despite some broken windows in the back, not to shabby considering there was a burning hummer right in front of the back door. I'm so elated that we survived relatively unscathed. AND WE'RE STILL HAVING A SALE UNTIL THE END OF JUNE WOOO

The House Book

Not only is this art to share but it is legitimate storytime. Probably one of the weirdest coincidences I have experienced centers around this awesome burned-down house by my place in East Van/Mt. Pleasant and a 'book' I made about it.
When I first moved here the house was kind of sketch but it was really lovely and decrepit and I liked it, I walked by it every day and tried to imagine who lived there. One night there was a fire and after that it was seemingly abandoned, with tarps eventually placed over the roof. Graffiti and local character soon overtook the house and I loved it even more, people put paintings of eyes in a mouth in the windows and the house was almost its own entity. The face got stolen or removed but it was replaced a few times before whoever it was eventually gave up. I imagine that is was probably not too safe to explore the upper floor after it had been decaying and burned-out for over a year.

The Hand Book

One of the things I'm doing at art school is bookbinding. I love books. I love them. I like to read 'em, make them, illustrate them, and collect beautiful old books, especially late 1800's natural Science books.

For my final project last fall semester I made these four books. My instructor didn't appreciate my creative approach to making a book for my first project so I just tried to focus on making really nice books for this one. I made illustrations and took photographs of the hands of artists and creative people I knew, along with their age, name, and what they did. I got an okay grade and most of the books turned out nicely, 2 are good enough to sell if anyone is interested.
My favourite part was using the hot foil stamp letterpress, an archaic contraption that is exactly what is sounds like and was used for the cover lettering. The only thing I didn't do myself was the digital printing.

Keep reading for more images and some of the book content!

Sale at The FALL!

This is only sweet news for Vancouver folks as The Fall's Wearable Arts aren't available online yet (it is in the works) but The Fall Tattooing and Artist Gallery is having an excellent sale for the entire month of June, including tons of shirts and merch featuring my artwork and the work of the other awesome artists here. SO CHEAPS

Like I pretty much spent my whole next paycheque at work already because of this sale.

Mo Sketchees & comix

Well here are some more. So you see, not all of my art and collaborations are great.
As always, click for bigger and read on for more
One of those fold the piece of paper and someone writes a sentence, the next person illustrates it, the next person describes the picture, and so on things. Once for an Illustration class we made these together all day and it was the best class ever.

Sketchies

Hey! I was cleaning my desk a little the other day and I unearthed some good little comics and drawings that were pretty excellent.
You don't get them all at once... they're too good.

Crowns and more

Recently I added a few crown designs to the shop with several different options. These ones are the most reasonably priced, but if you would like something custom or more elaborate I'm taking commissions again. Please message me with the contact form on my store and provide a description of what you're looking for and reference images if possible so I can give you an estimate. They usually range from $30-90 CAD but it really just depends on what you want, I love elaborate custom creations.

I'm working on making different types of hats right now but haven't quite perfected my processes yet... I'll keep you updated of course!

I tried to scrounge together as many pictures of crowns I have made (all sold, sorry) to give you an idea of what kinds of things are possible. I can usually find the little bits and pieces I need to make original designs and replicas. Here are most of the crowns I have made so far, most of them are commissions and some were made to sell at Deadly Couture.

Art Supplies

Blogger kind of sketched out on me for a few days. Sorry ladies and gents.
I'll make up for it with TONS OF SWEET POSTS.

Beginning with something often requested, the materials I use to make my art! I have more art supplies than I probably should but I really only use these few things most of the time. Next time you are skulking around your favourite art supply haunt keep your eye out for these things and give some a try!

POSTAHS

Last fall semester for my final Illustration project I made this series of 4 posters of some exceptionally awesome friends because most of the people I know are so amazing and talented they deserve their own posters, and if I could I would make one for everybody. My main focus here was just a few people with great style/significant visible body modifications/exceptional skillz and designing a poster that represents them as best I can. They are all ink on rag paper... as usualll.
And I got a pretty good grade!

Photo Shoot with David Denofreo

Last month I did a photo shoot with photographer David Denofreo to model an amazingly badass outfit made by these talented ladies named Karl and Katie.  It's made of recycled leather, chain mail, and various animal bones (found in the forest). Karl is also a hair wizard and sculpted the epic nest on my head.
It was a crazy couple of days assembling the outfit and doing the shoot all in my tiny loft. Everyone really collaborated on this shoot and the results are awesome, I've never looked so fierce!

New Art

I spent the past weekend doing some drawings because I was sick and useless. They are both done in ink on 11x15" rag paper. Feels nice to do some art again, I have been working so much in other mediums lately I was worried I would forget how to draw. It could happen.

Click on the images to view them at their glorious full resolution.

Grounded TV feature for The Fall

“The FALL is a multifaceted art orientated business that promotes artists and their works by developing a diverse residency of new forms, alternative, and multimedia artists and fostering interactions among those artists and commercial markets in a peer-based, community setting. We work with artists to position mixed media, new forms, cutting-edge and alternative art as a vibrant part of the Canadian cultural consciousness. The goal… to make local art available and affordable to all demographics.”

The Fall recently launched their Wearable Arts line, featuring artwork by local artists and designers printed in-house on t-shirts, coasters, affordable art plaques, magnets, and all sorts of things. This is the place you will find a variety of cheap art prints of my work! In addition to the custom-printed steez The Fall also has expanded into a store filled with the most unique and awesome locally designed and handmade clothing, accessories, and more. If you are in or around Vancouver, I implore you to check eet outtt. All this stuff will soon be available online too.
Our friends at Grounded TV put together this excellent video featuring myself, Shwa, and Phresha, featuring sweet tunes by Taal Mala. Please check it out and check out Grounded TV.

Finally a blog!

After months, nay, years of procrastination and anticipation I finally launched my online store and now my blog! Here I will post things like new art, style and craft photos and tutorials, modeling and art-related stuff, my adventures, things I like... and maaaybe cute pictures of my pets. This blog will hopefully become my internet home so I can move further away from DeviantArt and other various sites and focus on my artist blog and store, as well as my Facebook page. Please let me know what you like and what you want to see!
I'm pretty excited to get all this stuff going. I've been super busy and sick for most of this year so far, but I'm on the mend and I'm making and drawing more and more. This summer I am not doing any school, just working at The Fall and currently doing freelance makeup and styling to feed myself. This summer I'm going to work as hard as I can to do as much as possible, making things and having epic adventures and not being sick.
Please follow me and check back often! This blog is my new baby and I am going to update it I WILL I WILL I PROMISE.

Much love,
Brianne
